Critical Practices and Concepts

First, regardless of the basic systems engineering steps selected, it is important to iterate through them at least two times; three or more is better.  Understanding gained during one iteration will influence where additional emphasis may be needed in next iteration.  A broad viewpoint often produces the best, though sometimes shallow, results.

Second, at each step take a little time to think about what information and choices are most important to this problem.  Be sure to give adequate attention to the critical aspects of each.

Third, systems have working and support components.  A good architecture will address both.
